Welcome to InKing Royalty’s August Blog Hop! This year’s Blog Hop themes are inspired by popular songs – this month’s song is “Dog Days Are Over.” While we still feel the heat from a long, hot summer, August is a perfect time of year to start planning our Fall-themed cards. The projects in our hop will showcase Autumn, back-to-school and warm colors – you might even see a dog or two! We are excited to share our creations with you today! Hello dumplings first Miss Hammie has a confession to make. While I’ve heard the phrase “The Dog Days of Summer” for as far back as I can remember hearing what seem to me to be really silly phrases I never felt compelled to investigate the meaning behind it. Enter this month’s blog hop theme. How could I design a card based on the dog days being over if I didn’t know when they started, how long they last or basically their significance.  Once again I paid a visit to my old friend Google and here’s what I found:

the sultry part of the summer, supposed to occur during the period that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time as the sun: now often reckoned from July 3 to August 11.

One can only guess that if they, the “dog days”, are over that indicates cooler temperatures and possibly the first indication of Fall. My first indication of Fall has always been when the leaves start to change color and fall so that’s the idea behind my card.

I decided not to go thru a long drawn out explanation of how I created it. I borrowed a page from our beloved leader’s book and used layers. My cardbase is Crumb Cake, the layers are Granny Apple Green, Daffodil Delight and Very Vanilla. I used Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight and Cajun Craze ink. The images and sentiments are from the Rooted in Nature stamp set. To me it definitely speaks to the end of the sultry days of summer and the crispness of Fall. I’m pleased with how it came together and I’m certain that you’ll like it as well. A743FC31-4E10-4D90-927A-5483875EE9B8
