A Special Day

Happy Monday dumplings I have two cards for you today. One of the card uses a retired product, but can be CASE’d using current product. I used a retired product for a specific reason that I’ll share with you when I share the card.  Today is a very special day here in my hometown of Atlanta, quite truthfully it’s a special day thru out our country. It’s the birthday of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I created an eclipse card using Basic Black and Smoky Slate cardstock and Silver foil paper.

Sorry about the angle, but I was trying to avoid the reflection of my pink phone case in the silver letters.  As far as tools I used the Stampin’ Trimmer, the Large Letters Framelit dies. I also used Snail adhesive to attach the 51/4 x 4 inch Basic Black layer to the 51/2 x 81/2 inch card base which was scored at 41/4 inch. The letters were cut from Silver foil paper and were attached to the Basic Black layer using the Adhesive strips.

The second card that I created is also an eclipse card. I used retired glimmer paper to add sparkle to a very special card. Today is as I said earlier Dr. King’s Birthday, but it also marks the 110th anniversary of the founding of the first African-American Greek Letter Organization for Women, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  on the campus of Howard University. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 15, 1908. For most of my life I had knowledge of only two members of the Divine Nine, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.  My favorite aunt is an AKA and my late father was an Omega and they never quite acknowledged the existence of the other seven. Well that’s not quite true, when I mentioned the possibility of pledging a sorority my father suggested that pledging the sorority that’s considered the “sister” organization of his fraternity would make him happy.  Now that organization, Delta Sigma Theta, celebrated its Founders’ Day on January 13th and I will be posting a card for the Deltas very soon.

Heres the card I created to celebrate 110 years of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  I used Old Olive cardstock and glimmer paper that I believe is Sweet Sugar Plum because they’re close to the sorority colors.  The tools I used were the Stampin’ Trimmer, the Large Numbers framelit dies. I attached the glimmer paper to the Old Olive cardstock with Snail adhesive. The 1908 was attached with adhesive strips.

I’ll be posting my card for all my Delta friends later this week.
